She then began working at Salem Township Hospital, first as a volunteer (candy striper), then nurse's aide, ward clerk, pharmacy technician, and finally a certified pharmacy technician. She worked there for 30 years. She then worked for Marion Eye Center for 2 years. The last of her working career was as a paraprofessional at the Salem Elementary #111 School system, a job she loved because of the people and the kids. The people she worked with made for lifelong friendships and she wanted them to be remembered. At the hospital: Judy Price, Barb Helpingstine, Betty Wood, Carolyn Daily, Elaine Meares, Emily Blackburn, Sherry Walsh, Kim Hays, Doris Lutz, Tara Pruden, Connie Tierney, and Jeff Baldridge. Randy, who works at the hospital, wanted to send profound gratitude to the H.R. Department ,Diane Boswell and Stephanie Johnson, for the amazing effort to help him. A very special thank you to the president of the hospital, Kendra Taylor, for everything.
Debbie also wanted to remember the people at the school: Marilyn Henson, Joanne Luttrell, Betty Purcell, and Connie Graham.
There were so many friends that helped her and her husband get to so many appointments and treatments through her illness. She called these people her “angels”: Joe and Shiela Booth, Ray Booher, Melodie Finks, Lynn and Phil Jones, her beloved sister Gloria Wetzel and her husband Ross, and her much loved sister in-law, Delores Little.
Much love and appreciation to her doctors: Dr. Baumgart, Dr. Mahmud, Dr. DaVici, at Siteman Cancer Center: Dr. Kim, her oncologist, Dr. Tanner Johann (a true and special doctor). She also wanted to mention her study coordinator, Dave Schwab, who became a great friend.
Debbie loved to decorate her yard and business. She won several city awards, including Operation Pride for home and business, Drive By Awards and was on the Garden Tour, which she was very proud of. The women loved to power wash!
Debbie was baptized in the Christian Faith and had recently been attending the First Baptist in Salem where Rev. DeWitt and the congregation were very kind.
