Obituary of Carol Bass
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Carol Bass of Salem on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in Kinmundy to Elliott and Florence (McCulley) Thoms, Carol was the beloved wife of the late Roy L. Bass, whomshe married on August 13, 1954. They shared 49 years of love and partnership until Roy’s passing on June 24, 2003.
Carol’s legacy endures through her family: her daughter, Laura Bass (Doug) of Festus, MO; her son, Michael Bass (Kerrie) of New Market, AL; her daughter, Linda Bass Williams (Jim) of Nashville, IL; her grandchildren, Jacob Bass of Birmingham, AL, and Brittney Waggener (Noah) of Front Royal,VA; and her two great-grandchildren. She is also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Elliott and Florence Thoms; her brother, William Thoms; her sister-in-law, Sheila Thoms; her brother-in-law, Dean Bass; her sister-in-law, Bobbie Bass; and her beloved husband, Roy.
Carol was a member of Eternal Hope Christian Church in Salem and enjoyed the simple joys of life—spending time with family and friends, going out to lunch, and shopping. She was a dedicated Cafeteria Cook at Franklin ParkJunior High, where she enjoyed working with students and staff.
The family extends special gratitude to Twin Willows Nursing Home and Residential HealthCare Hospice for their compassionate care in Carol’s final days. They also wish to thank her nieces, Paula Gibson (Frank), Deana Sullens (Andrew), and Theresa Bass, and her great-nephew, Oscar Bass, for their love and support.
A private burial will be held at East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cancer Specialists of Illinois and will be accepted through Crouse Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
