William Thomas Hutchins Jr., age 54 of Salem, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Salem Township Hospital in Salem. William was born on April 17, 1970 in Long Beach, California, the son of William Thomas Hutchins Sr. and Sharon Colleen (Lassiter) Poleski. Survivors include his parents, William Thomas Hutchins Sr. and wife Connie, and Sharon Collen Poleski and husband Gary; children, Elizabeth Melton and husband Edward of Odin, Marie Hutchins of Kansas, and Cody Hutchins of Kansas; a granddaughter, Sophia Melton “Peanut”; loving girlfriend, Terri Finn of Salem; and two sisters, Tabitha and Sherry. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Helen Lassiter; and a son, Tommy-Ray Lee Hutchins. William honorably served his country in the United States Army. He worked for 15 years as an over the road truck driver for Beckmann Distributions Services Inc. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Sophia, who he affectionately called “Peanut”, collecting Civil War items, assembling model cars, collecting General Lee cars, and being with his dog, Roger, who was his traveling buddy. A Celebration of Life Service for William Thomas Hutchins Jr. will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Larry Miller officiating. Military Rites will be accorded at the funeral home by the Salem American Legion. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
