Obituary of Ellis W. Charlton

Ellis W. Charlton, age 67 of Salem, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at HSHS St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois. Ellis was born on August 9, 1956 in Fort Lewis, Washington the son of Glen Sr. and Nancy (Webster) Smith. He married Anita Booher on May 17, 1974 at the Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church and together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Anita Charlton of Salem; four sons, Tony Charlton and wife Raedena of Kell; Tim Charlton and wife Danielle of Marion; Trevor Charlton; and Todd Charlton and wife Georgina of Rantoul; grandchildren, Dillon, Cheyanne, Alexis, Mikaela, Dakotah, Ethan, Cameron, Colton, Maddox, Jensen, Searra, Andrew, David, Elanohr, and Peyton; great grandchildren, Skyeleigh, Hendrix, Presley, Saylor, Emersyn, Ryker, Kayne, Rosie, Delani, and Delilah; mother in-law, Kathryn Booher; siblings, Kathy Smith, Ernie Smith, Jim Charlton, Randy Charlton, Terry “Bud” Smith, and Josh Charlton; and a brother in-law, Greg Booher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Nancy Smith; two granddaughters, Adalynn and Sophiya; a great granddaughter, Makenna; siblings, Joyce Ann, Vernon, and J.R.; his father in-law, David Booher; and a brother in-law, Wally Booher. Ellis was the owner and operator of Charlton’s Auto Repair in Salem. In his free time, he loved hunting, fishing, shooting guns and enjoyed tapping maple tree to make his own maple syrup. Funeral services for Ellis Charlton will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Jim Burleyson officiating. Burial will follow at Harvey’s Point Cemetery in Cartter. There will be a visitation on Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Harvey’s Point Cemetery or the American Cancer Society and will be received at the funeral home.
