Obituary of Beverly Jane Phelps

Beverly Jane (Littrell) Phelps, age 87 of Salem, passed away at 3:25 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital. Her adoring husband was by her side along with her children. Beverly was born on August 27, 1936 the daughter of Harold and Bessie (Clark) Littrell. She married Lowell A. Phelps on April 9, 1953 in Salem and he survives in Salem. In addition to Lowell, her husband of 71 years, she is survived by her son, Ed Phelps; daughters, Elaine Phelps and Lucinda Register; grandchildren, Erika Register, Amanda Jones and husband Ryan and Paul Register; great-grandchildren, Brayden Register, Ryleigh Jones; siblings, Ron Littrell, Kathy Littrell, and Melody Anderson and husband Perry; brothers-in-law, Buck Oulrey, and Rev. Robert Phelps and wife Fern (Attaberry); and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by very dear and special friends, John Hamilton-Earle, Sharon Karpiel, Kay Smith and Wilma Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Bessie (Clark) and Harold Littrell; brother Dale; sister, Darlene Oulrey; sister-in-law, Catherine Littrell; nephew, Terry Oulrey; dear son-in-law, Mike Register; and her sweet mother-in-law, Susie (Martin) Phelps. Beverly was a devoted wife and mother. She was always ready to help anyone who needed anything. She worked for many years as an office manager, bookkeeper and licensed broker for Phelps Real Estate. She had a strong Christian faith. Beverly enjoyed working as a Pink Lady with the hospital auxiliary at the Salem Township Hospital where she had volunteered for over 5000 hours. She also delivered for meals-on-wheels for many years. Funeral Services for Beverly Phelps will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Pam Phelps officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Private entombment will be held at a later date in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salem Township Hospital Auxiliary, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice and can be left at the funeral home.
