Obituary of Gene Paul Moore
Gene Paul Moore, age 91 of Salem, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Salem Township Hospital.
Paul was born on May 2, 1932 in Jackson, Tennessee the son of Lamire Holden “L.H.” and Neoma (Hudson) Moore. He married Juanita Mae (Knox) Moore on September 8, 1957 at University Baptist Church in Carbondale and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Shari Lynn Finley and husband Chris of Oklahoma City, OK and Periann Smith and husband Charles of Glen St. Mary, FL; two grandchildren, Matthew Christopher Finley and wife April Lyric Finley and Lori Rebeccah Walls and husband Robert Bradley Walls; one great-grandson, Summit Grae Finley; and two brothers, Lamire Holden Moore Jr. and wife Cheryl and John David Moore and wife Debbie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Thomas Moore.
Paul retired after working for many years as a Wildlife Biologist for the State of Illinois at Forbes State Park. He was a Charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Salem, where he served as Deacon, Music Leader, and Sunday School Teacher. He had served his country in the United States Navy, where he worked as an Operating Room Technician.
Kindness and generosity were two of his greatest attributes, whether supporting his church, community, or anyone else in need, Paul always did so with a smile. He enjoyed being around his many friends, and never met a stranger. A few of his hobbies were hunting, fishing, training bird dogs, and hosting his yearly father-son quail shoot.
Funeral services for Gene Paul Moore will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services in Carmi and can be received at the funeral home.
