Obituary of John F. Andrews
John F. Andrews, age 82 of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Salem, passed away at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 10, 2023.
John was born on September 23, 1941 in Decatur, the son of Charles and Pearl Mae (Pugsley) Andrews. On July 11, 1964 he married Susan J. “Sue” (Luttrell) Andrews and she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kari Hustedde and husband Roy and Ami Rubin both of Salem; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Ray and husband Mark of Benton, KY; grandchildren, Alex Andrews and wife Tiffany, Cole Andrews and wife Sadie, Graham Andrews, Kayla Romo, Keagan Johnson, Allie Hustedde, Reis Rubin and wife Jennifer, Logan Rubin, and J.J. Rubin; nine great-grandchildren, Coby, Aryanna, Asher, Ness, Soloman, Sarafeena, Ethan, Brandon, and Ayanna; and three sisters-in-law, Jan Andrews, Sara Day, and Pam Thomason and husband Dan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John David Andrews; two sisters, Frances Andrews and Jan Hines and husband Ron; and one brother, Charles “Chuck” Andrews.
John enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his time in the service, he began working for C.J. Heck in Salem, then went on to own and operate Andrew’s Woodworking, Construction, and carpet laying. John retired from North American Lighting, and then worked as a contractor and co-owner of US Sonet along with his wife and son. He was a member of the Jaycees, Elks, and the American Legion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Noon with Father Patrick Peter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:45 am at Crouse Funeral Home on Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Sandoval with Military Rites by the Salem American Legion. Memorials can be made to St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church or The Greater Salem Foundation and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem.
