Obituary of Betty Elouise Richards

Betty Eloise Richards, age 91 of Iuka passed away on Sunday November 10, 2019 at Salem Township Hospital. Betty was born on June 20, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Samuel Warren and Bessie Mae (Smith) Thompson. She married Clayton C. Spangler on March 7, 1948 and he preceded her in death. She later married Rheubin E. Richards on April 15, 2000 and he also preceded her in death. Survivors include, daughter, Debbie Bullard of Texico and friend Roger Aaron of Salem; son in-law: Rodney Hawkins and friend Barbara Zenan of La Porte, IN; step son, Lowell Richards and wife Geneva of Iuka; step son in-law, Mike McMeen of Xenia; grandchildren, Bruce Hawkins and wife Ronda of Ramsey, IN, Jeff Hawkins and wife Heather of Newark, OH, Ryan Hawkins of La Porte, IN, Rodney Hawkins Jr. of Orlando, FL, Beth Word and husband Jeremy of Springfield, IL, Aaron Bullard of Salem, several step grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter, Patricia Hawkins, step-daughter, Phyllis McMeen, and a grandson, Jason Bullard. Betty was a salesclerk at Woolworth. She was a member of the Donoho Prairie Christian Church, and she attended New Liberty Baptist Church. Funeral services for Betty Eloise Richards will be held on Wednesday November 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at Rogers- Atkins Funeral Home, with Bruce Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Donoho Prairie Cemetery in Texico. There will be a visitation on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the New Liberty Baptist Church or the Donoho Prairie Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
