Obituary of Joel W. Hodge Sr.

Joel W. Hodge, age 72 of Odin, Illinois, passed away on July 5, 2023 at his home. Joel was born on November 26, 1950 in Centralia, the son of Charles Everett Hodge Sr. and Anna Mae (Moore) Hodge. He married Annette Lynn (DeWitt) Hodge on April 29, 1972 in Springfield, Illinois and she survives in Odin. Survivors include, his wife Annette of Odin; children, Joel Hodge Jr. and wife Marsha of Odin, Jason Hodge and wife Brandi of Sandoval, Chrissy Boozer of Oregon, and Alberta Casanova of Texas; brothers, Larry Hodge and wife Sherry of Odin, and Donny Hodge of Salem; grandchildren, Billy-Joe of Texas, Kristen of Texas, Cinnamon and husband Sammy of Texas, Nathan and wife Melanie of Oregon, Austin and Taylor of Salem, Jennifer of Odin, Kyle and Braden of Sandoval; great grandchildren, Phoenix, Natalee, and Ryder of Oregon, and Isabella, Skylar and Peyton of Odin; and good friends, Francis Cook and JB and Sherry George. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Charles and Lyle Hodge. Joel was a retired mechanic. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed playing the guitar and spending time with his family. In his younger years Joel enjoyed playing basketball, and received several scholarships to continue his basketball career. There will be no public services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital in St. Louis and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
