Obituary of Kenneth Lee Tomes

Kenneth Lee Tomes Sr., age 91 of Salem, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Kenneth was born on May 19, 1928 in Leitchfield, Kentucky the son of Dellie W. Tomes and Elsie Lee (Mingus) Tomes. He married Shirley Ann (Byrne) Tomes on May 3, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky and she survives in Salem. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Lee Tomes Jr. and wife Connie of Sandoval and Robert Alan Tomes of Florida; two daughters, Barb Windell and husband Mike of Indiana and Beth Boothman and husband Donald of Sandoval; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Sue Tomes; one brother, James Tomes and one sister, Maja Bush Kenneth was of the Baptist Faith. He served in the United States Navy during WWII at Pearl Harbor. After 43 years he retired from World Color Press where he worked as a Supervisor. He served as former Post Commander of the Salem American Legion for many years. He was also a member of the Moose, VFW and was in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was a charter member of the Pleasure Ridge Kentucky Fire Department. Funeral Services for Kenneth Lee Tomes Sr. will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 11:00 am at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with David Williams officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery in Salem with Military Rites accorded at the grave by the Salem American Legion. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service. Memorials can be made to Mission Salem and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home.
