Obituary of James "J.D." Grimes

James “J.D.” Grimes, age 73 of Centralia, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Helia Healthcare of Salem. J.D. was born on April 26, 1949 in Iowa the son of Dr. Richard “R.P.” Grimes and Bernadine (Bozett) Grimes. He married Janie (Hahn) Grimes on February 16, 1974, they later divorced and she survives in Iuka. Survivors include his three children, Katherine Garren and husband David of Salem, Sam Grimes of Iuka, and Jill Long and husband Dustin of Salem; six grandchildren, Jayna Bishop and husband Mason, Wyatt Garren, Donovan Garren, Kegan Grimes, Joshua Parkinson, and Kyle Long; one sister, Nancy Grimes of Salem; and two nieces, Stacie Winkler and Kellie Winkler. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Paul Grimes Jr.; and one grandson, Edward Parmer Jr. J.D. was of the Baptist faith. He retired as a Marion County Deputy Sheriff, prior to that, he was the first Chief of Police for Iuka and the Security Supervisor of the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. He also owned Carpet and More in Salem. J.D. enjoyed fishing, video games, and was an inventor. Funeral services for James “J.D.” Grimes will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Joannie Naraghi officiating. Interment will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Wednesday.
