Obituary of JoAnn L. Beer

JoAnn L. Beer, age 80 of Iuka, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 12, 2023. JoAnn was born on April 28, 1942 in St. Rose, the daughter of John and Regina (Voss) Horstmann. She married George Beer Jr. on May 7, 1963 in St. Rose, and he survives in Iuka. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Kevin Beer and wife Malissa of Waverly, Keith Beer of Iuka, and Kurt Beer and wife Stephanie of Kell; grandchildren, ReJeana Meado and husband Jacob, Konner Beer and wife Amanda, Korbin Beer, Trent Beer and wife Bethany, Kailey Saatkamp and husband Eric, Drew Beer and friend Haley, and Brittany Phillips and husband Sevearn; three great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way; siblings, Dolores Richter and husband Jim, Bill Horstman and friend Marsha, Pat Jansen, John Horstmann Jr. and wife Elaine, and Rita Tebbe and husband Mike; sisters-in-law, Florence Beer, Marilyn Jansen, and Rita Horstmann; brother-in-law, Wally Beer and wife Carolyn; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Veronica (Schomacher) Beer; brothers, Jim Horstmann and wife Rita, and Bob Horstmann; sister-in-law, Eleanor Wessling and husband Vince; brothers-in-law, Andrew Jansen, Clarence Beer, and Ray Beer and wife Marie; and grandson, Kyle Beer. JoAnn was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Kinmundy. She worked for the Clinton County Farm Bureau early in life, and after she was married, she worked as a farm wife and mother. She worked alongside her husband milking cows on their dairy farm. After selling their cows, she worked for Centralia Estates. Joann enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and canning. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem with Father Jose Jacob officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday from 8:45 am until 9:45 am at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. A Rosary service will be held at 4:30 pm on Monday, prior to the visitation. Memorial donations can be made to SSM Hospice, masses, or the Donors Choice and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem.
