Obituary of Esther May Shaffer

Esther May Shaffer was born April 20, 1924 to Alfred Richard Buchhorn and Doris Wells Buchhorn in Omega Township, of Marion Co. Il. She was the fifth of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Dorothy Jones Graham, Marjorie Craig, one brother Charles H. Buchhorn, her husband of 71 years, Donald Z. Shaffer and her daughter Nora L. Gibbs Landers. Four of their six children were born before they moved into Alma, IL a village where a daughter and twin sons were born. She was active in the Alma United Methodist Church and other activities in the surrounding area, including farming. She joined Pasadena Blvd. United Methodist Church in 1976 by transfer of Membership from Illinois and held several leadership positions. She had a passion for The United Methodist Women, and served in every office of the Local Unit being elected twice as president. She leaves to morn their loss: Jerry L Shaffer and wife Michelle of Cypress, TX; Carl A, Shaffer of Moweaqua, IL; Leslie Z. Shaffer and wife Diane of Robinson, IL; Leon G. Shaffer and wife, Mattie of Cypress TX; Donna May Brashear of Tomball TX; and a host of grandchildren, great, and great, great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews in Illinois. FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS South Houston / Pasadena Tuesday December 13, 2022 at East Haven Funeral Home, 716 College Ave., South Houston TX 77587 713-944-2500 Visitation and Services from 4 pm to 6:30 pm with a service to be provide by Reverend Royce Scott at 6:30 pm followed by a continued small visitation till 8 pm Salem Illinois Friday December 16, 2022 at Crouse Funeral Home 403 S. Broadway, Salem, IL 62881. Visitation from 12 noon to 2 pm with services to follow at 2 pm and burial at Alma Cemetery in Alma IL following services. In lieu of flowers or plants, if one prefers can make a donation to Parkwood United Methodist Church, in memory of Esther Shaffer, 400 Parkwood Dr., Pasadena TX 77503, 832-922-1729 Some favorite scripture is “Come unto me, all you who labor, and I will give you rest” “All things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.” Comfort those present with I Thess: 4:13-18 Preferred Hymn, “Just a Rose Will Do” And “Beyond the Sunset” performed by soloist.
