Obituary of Sandra "Sandy" Gail McGaughy
An Artist has died, Sandra Gail (Higdon) McGaughy, age 61 of Salem, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Salem Township Hospital.
She was born on December 19, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky the daughter of James and Thelma (Perry) Higdon, her mother survives in Salem.
Her family moved to Salem when she was 19 and that is where she spent the remainder of her life. Sandy was a talented artist of mixed mediums, an avid naturalist and doting wife, mother and grandmother.
She married Robert G. McGaughy in 1981, and he survives in Salem. She remained a devoted wife for 41 years. She was mother to Robert J. McGaughy (Andrea) of Salem, Jessica A. McGaughy (Zelda) of Decatur; grandmother to Andrew, Aiden and William McGaughy; sister of Sheila Higdon, Sharon Woolridge (Bill), Laura Krutsinger, and Karen Putt (Christopher); and sister-in-law of April Rottman (Ed) and Dr. Jill McGaughy.
She showered her family with love and comfort for all her life. Sandy hand-decorated birthday cakes and drew cards for her numerous beloved nieces and nephews to commemorate many joyous occasions. She shared her enjoyment of art, gardening, country/rock music and nature with many others.
She was preceded in death by her father, James R. Higdon; and brother, James D. Higdon
Celebration of Life Services for Sandra G. McGaughy will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Denise Burke officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of the time of the service. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and can be received at the funeral home.
