Obituary of William E. "Bill" Sapp
William E. “Bill” Sapp, age 85 of Salem, passed away at 6:18 pm on August 4, 2022 at Salem Township Hospital with his family by his side, after a long battle with cancer.
Bill was born on August 2, 1937 in Chicago the son of William E. and Nettie (Woodward) Sapp. He married Karen K. (Hays) Sapp on May 29, 1961.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Karen, he is survived by one son, Gary Sapp and wife Kimberly of St. Elmo; two daughters, Marla Tolliver and husband Scott of Salem and Lisa Wilkerson and husband Mark of Louisville; four grandsons, Josh Sapp, Jeffrey Tolliver and wife Alexa, Johnny Tolliver, and Joe Tolliver and girlfriend Alyssa Vest; one granddaughter, Lindsey Deters and husband Brett; three step-granddaughters, Taylor Cloe and husband Caleb, Ashley Adam and husband Matt, and Megan Wilkerson; one great grandson, Kyler Sapp; one step-great grandson, Gunner Casey; one Tolliver great grandson due in August; three great granddaughters, Hadleigh Sapp, Madilyn Deters and Amelia Deters; two step-great granddaughters, Graeli Cloe and Raelee Wilkerson; three cousins, Jerry Copple, Richard Powless, and Buddy Sapp; one life long friend, Ronnie Copple; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Eltie and Juanita (Gaston) Hays; one sister, Barb Wachholz; and one infant son, Jeffrey Brian Sapp.
Bill served in the United States Navy. He retired from Local 528 after many years as a Foreman and grade checker in road construction. Bill loved to play golf and was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He enjoyed all the sports his children and grandchildren participated in over many years.
Bill wished to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family with arrangements.
