Janet Marie Burgess, age 68 of Salem, passed away on June 8, 2022 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Janet was born on February 4, 1954 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Walter and Helen Marie (Bogren) Johnson. She married Steven Burgess on March 18, 1978 in Franklin Park, IL and he survives in Salem. In addition to her husband, Steve she is survived by her son, Scott Burgess of Salem; one brother, Walter Robert Johnson of Franklin Park; mother-in-law, Marion Burgess of Flora; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Helen Johnson; and father-in-law, Eugene Burgess. Janet was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Centralia. She was very active in the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, and worked with the Tuesday’s Child After School Program. She worked for World Color Press for 23 years in Purchasing, and later worked for and retired from First Financial Bank in Salem. Janet loved animals, especially her dog Mac. She collected Precious Moments, Barbies, and enjoyed making floral arrangements. Funeral Services for Janet Marie Burgess will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Chuck Knapp officiating.
