Obituary of Don Earl Thompson

Don Earl Thompson, age 76 of Murfreesboro, Tennessee formerly of Salem passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center – Nashville Campus. Don was born on July 9, 1942 in Salem, the son of Terry and Trudy (Bell) Thompson. He is survived by three sons, Mark Thompson and wife Kelly of Austin, Texas, Scott Thompson and wife Amy of Nashville, Illinois, Zachary Thompson and wife Mekdess of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; one daughter, Lacie Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee; three brothers, Eddie Thompson and wife Sherry of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike Thompson and wife Mae of Galveston, Texas, Tom Thompson of South Carolina; one sister Kaye Boyles of Centralia, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Sydney, Dustyn, Emily, Tyler, Tyler, Camryn, Jacob, and Joshua; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rose Marie. Don was a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and worked as a project manager for the Jesco Corporation and was a member of the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 653, retiring in 2008. Don served in the United States Marine Corps and was an avid military collector and was a member of the Tennessee Military Collectors Association. Don loved to travel and loved his family while keeping up with his grandchildren’s activities. A private graveside funeral service for Don Thompson will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin, Illinois with Doug Romine officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Salem American Legion. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to your local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) chapter. Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
