Obituary of Joyce M. Chappell
Joyce Chappell, age 92 of Salem, passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
Joyce was born on December 6, 1928 in Salem the daughter of Jay Donoho and Margaret (Stitt) Russow. She married George Edward Chappell and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Lee Chappell and wife Glenda of Mt. Vernon and Terry Don Chappell and wife Angela of Salem; one daughter, Karen Sue Garrett of Salem; grandchildren, Melissa Shotton, Brian Shotton, Misty Anderson and husband Steven, Greg Garrett and wife LuAnn, Beth Runge and husband Barry, Stephen Garrett and wife Missy, Stacey Aschenbeck and husband Keith, Kyle Chappell and wife Amanda, and Hillary Chappell; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild expected in December; one niece Jeanette Molenhour; and one nephew, Bob Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; nine sisters; and two brothers.
Joyce attended Open Arms Fellowship Church. She was involved in the Little Theatre in Salem for many years and enjoyed dancing and singing. She retired as a custodian from Hawthorn Elementary School.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with Rae DeLao officiating. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Donor’s Choice and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem.
