Obituary of Charles "Charlie" Lee Weems
Charles “Charlie” Lee Weems, age 85 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Charlie was born on June 17, 1936 in Marion County the son of Sherman and Edna (White) Weems. He married Katherine Mae (Molenhour) Weems in September of 1958 in Salem and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Milrea Howe and husband Wade of Salem; one son, Terry Weems of Homosassa, Florida; one daughter-in-law, Kelly Weems of Kell; five grandchildren, Tannis, Megan and Kitiara Weems and Hanna and Chase Mercer; and two great-grandchildren, Trey and Katherine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine; one son, Thomas Weems; and all of his siblings.
Charlie and Katherine were the owners of Weems Livery Service in Salem. Charlie also worked for and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation at the Marion County Maintenance facility after 28 years of service. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows.
Funeral services for Charles “Charlie” Lee Weems will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Trent Ice officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.
