Ray Howell, age 92 of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Doctors Nursing and Rehab in Salem. Ray was born on December 23, 1927 in Haines Township, Iuka, the son of Martin E. and Effie (Snow) Howell. He married Hazel E. (Mitchell) Brown on December 28, 1959 in Salem and she preceded him in death on June 8, 1984. He is survived by two brothers, Max Howell of Odin and Claude Howell Sr. of Salem and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Ervin Howell; and four sisters, Nora Hays, Bessie Gaston, Wanita Howell and Darlene Goostree. Ray served his country in the Army for two enlistment periods. After that he worked for American Foundry for 20 years and after they closed, he worked in maintenance at Salem Township Hospital until his retirement. Graveside Services for Ray Howell will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem, with Claude Howell officiating. Military Rites will be accorded at the grave by the Salem American Legion. Memorials can be made to the Salem American Legion and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem.
