Lyle L. Slater, age 84 of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Twin Willows Nursing Center. Lyle was born on September 4, 1936 in Marion County the son of Oscar Marien and Addie (Powell) Slater. He married Rosie Lewis on June 4, 1955 in Marion County and she survives in Salem. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Mike Slater of Sandoval, Randy Slater of Salem, Verle Slater of Kinmundy, Sharon “Sherry” Helton and husband Steve of Kinmundy, and David Slater of Central City; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Connie Gaston; one granddaughter, Chandra Slater; brothers, Walter, Virgil, James, and Verle; and sisters, Virginia, Verlene, Betty, and Lorene. Lyle worked as a heavy equipment operator out of Local 520. He loved spending time with his family. Funeral services for Lyle L. Slater will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Crouse Funeral in Salem with David Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Cemetery in Alma. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice and can be received at the Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
