Darrell Shuler, age 84 of Salem, passed away at his home on Monday, October 28, 2019. Darrell was born on May 30, 1935 in Salem, Illinois to William “Bill” and Verna (Gray) Shuler. He married Edna F. Smith on September 1, 1955 and she preceded him in death. He later married Elbertia (Burgess) Lewis on March 7, 2019 and she survives in Salem. Survivors include his wife, one son, Dwain Shuler and wife Peggy of Alma; grandchildren, Cory Shuler and wife Anna of Alma, Amie William and wife Carla of Beaumont, TX and Jennifer Maltman of Centralia; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Abigale and Brialey Shuler of Alma and Jessica, Jamie and Erica Maltman of Centralia; sisters, Sondra Harmon and husband Dick of Salem, DeeAnna Correll and husband John of Walnut Hill, Phyllis Phillips and husband James of Salem, Dorris Ward and husband Lawrence of Fairfield, Rita Walker of Salem and Joyce Williams of Salem; and a brother Lloyd Shuler and wife Cookie of Salem; Step Children: Carla Gibson of Shumway and Bill Lewis of Centralia; Step Grandchildren: Jason Lewis of Salem, Colette Cadle of Summersville, Tyler Lewis of Salem, Brandy Lewis of Salem, and Trevor Lewis of Salem; 14 Step Great Grandchildren; Sister In-law: Lisa Flagg of Salem; Brothers In-law: Larry Burgess of Alamo, TX and Eber Burgess of Wayne City. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edna Shuler; one son, James Shuler, two sister, Wilma Hampsten and Delilah Davis; and three brothers, Raymond, Clinton “Buck”, and Don Shuler; step grandson, Joshua Lewis;a brother in-law: Leonard Williams and a sister in-law, Carolyn McDowell. Darrell was a heavy equipment operator as a Cat driver. He was a member of the Grace Church of the Nazarene. Private graveside services will be held at Allmon Cemetery with Doug Romine officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Allmon Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
