James Donald Gray, age 60 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Salem Township Hospital. He was born on December 9, 1959 in Salem the son of Charles E. and Carolyn (Knapp) Gray. Jim is survived by a sister, Jeanne Speaks and husband Jerry of Salem; brothers, Jerry Gray of Junction City and Jeff Gray of Salem; nephews, Matthew Akes and wife Amber of Marion, Mark Akes and wife Lindsey of Marion, Michael Gray of Salem, Jacob Gray of Junction City; nieces, Angela Shaw and husband Darrell of Salem, Brandy Berning and husband Chad of Texico, Casey Young and husband Jeremy of Salem, Jerlyn Gray of East St. Louis and Molly Gray of Salem; 11 great nieces, 10 great-nephews, and one great-great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Beulah “Boobie” Gray. Jim worked for Merz Vault Company in Salem for many years. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with Steve Upchurch officiating. Memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children and can be received at the Crouse Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
