Freda Marie (Bowen) Chasteen, age 99 of Murfreesboro, TN formerly of Salem, passed away on Monday December 21, 2020 at the Life Care Center of Hickory Woods in Antioch, TN. Freda was born on August 29, 1921 in Patoka, Illinois the daughter of George Washington and Leatha (Richards) Bowen. She married Lyle Chasteen on November 11, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Iona Canada of Murfreesboro, TN; 4 grandchildren, Diana and Mark of Smyrna TN, Michael of San Francisco, CA and Matthew of Los Angeles CA; sister, Kathy Smith and husband Don of Centralia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Michael Allen, and 11 brothers and sisters. Freda was a homemaker and faithful member of the Salem First Baptist Church. Funeral services for Freda Marie Chasteen will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at the Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Dr. Andy DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Paradise Cemetery in Salem. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
