John Richard Barkley, age 85 of Salem, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Twin Willows Nursing Home in Salem. John was born on January 30, 1935 in New York, the son of Irving J. and Julia E. Barkley. He married Ann Catherine (Medder) Barkley on July 19, 1968 and she preceded him in death. Survivors include four brothers, Laurence Barkley, Martin Barkley, Thomas Barkley and Stephen Barkley; one sister, Catherine Barkley; niece, Freida Smith of Salem; and nephews, Robert Shehorn and wife Joann of Salem and Tommie Shehorn and wife Linda of Iuka. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Danny Barkley. John was a draftsman at the Siegler Company in Centralia and later transferred to Holland, Michigan where he worked until the factory closed. He was of the Catholic faith. He served in the United States Army, where he worked as a radar and radio operator. Graveside services for John Barkley will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Palestine Cemetery in Iuka.
