Albert “Buddy” Thornburg, age 78 of Iuka, passed away on January 22, 2020 at Doctor’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. Albert was born on April 10, 1941 in Beggs, Oklahoma the son of Albert M. Thornburg and Clye (Campbell) Thornburg. He married Erma (Merriman) Thornburg on November 11, 1975 in Iuka and she survives in Iuka. Albert is also survived by two daughters, Melissa Thornburg and Gina Hafertepe and husband Chris; two stepchildren; five granddaughters, Ashley Johnson, Amy Zesati, Katy Hafertepe, Regan Short and Lily Jo Thornburg ; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Sue Ryan and husband Jim. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Lee and a granddaughter, Ava. Buddy retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2006. He served in the United State Marine Corp, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family.
