Obituary of Hilda Eileen Powell

Hilda Eileen Powell, 89 of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Salem, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Lavender Ridge in Mt. Vernon. Hilda was born on November 9, 1930 in Omega, the daughter of Chesley Paul and Huldah (Marlow) See. She married Samuel Eli Conant on February 18, 1949 in Salem and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1965. On July 30, 1968 she married Lowell J. Diss in Salem and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1979. Hilda next married Virgil C. Powell on August 8, 1987 in Salem and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Gary Conant and wife Janet of Alma and Alan Conant and wife Terry of Salem; step-daughter, Pamela Smith and husband Richard of Salem; grandchildren, Lynn Riehm and husband Paul of Salem, Lisa Ring and husband Rob of Salem, Lori Malone and husband Josh of Alma, Bradley Conant and wife Raeanna of Alma, Scott Conant and wife Alison of Effingham; step-grandchildren, Chase Smith of Huntington Beach, CA, Sonya Lewis and Rodney Warren of Missouri; great-grandchildren, Victoria Simmons and husband Nick of Farina, Griffin Motch, Keely Smith, Gracie Motch, Lily Malone, Kyle Malone, Landon Smith, Greta Motch, Granger Motch, Addison Conant, Eli Conant, Alexandria Conant, Adalyn Conant; step-great-grandchildren, Dawson Riehm, Oliva Ring, Kevin Ring, Elle Ring, Josh Warren, Ellie Warren, Emma Warren; great-great-grandchildren, Aubree, Paislee and Kenadee Simmons; one sister, Inez Douthit of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Eli Conant; step-daughter, Linda Warren; sisters, Zelpha Jones, Ella Mae Knuf, Mary Diss, Elsie Rose; brothers, Virgil See, Earl See, Verle See, Merle See and Leroy See. Hilda worked at Salem IGA, Egyptian Nursery in Farina and retired from World Color Press in Salem. Graveside Services for Hilda Eileen Powell will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 4:00 pm at Sandy Branch Cemetery in Kinmundy. Memorials can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
