James Leroy Maxey, age 84 of Salem, passed away on Thursday July 18, 2019 at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem. James was born on October 6, 1934 in Tonti Township, Illinois to Hershel and Hazel (Gaston) Maxey. Survivors include his four children, Melinda Thompson of Salem, Janet Hays and husband John of Salem, John Maxey and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon, and James Maxey and wife Lisa of Centralia; grandchildren, Marie Pollard and special friend Steve Wilkins, Sean Maxey, Amber Aaron and husband Nathan, and Kaitlyn Maxey; great grandchildren, Kameron and Keaton Wilkins and Bentley Aaron. He was preceded in death by his parents, three wives including Carolyn Maxey who was the mother of his children, an infant son, Terry Lee Maxey, a brother, Harry Maxey, and a grandson, Johnathan Hays. James worked at Radiac and was of Christian Faith. Funeral services for James Leroy Maxey will be held on Tuesday July 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Grace Church of the Nazarene with Mark Copley officiating. Burial will follow at the Alma Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 5:00-7:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and can be left at Rogers- Atkins Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
