Obituary of Charles Clayburn Neal

Charles “Chuck” Clayburn Neal, age 76 of Salem passed away on January 1, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Charles was born on January 8, 1943 in Flat Rock, Illinois the son of Charles Otto Neal and Patsy Ruth (Sandifur) Neal. He married Dorothy Christine Pummill on April 2, 1966 in Hammond, IN and she preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Patsy Ruth Neal of Lawrenceville; daughter, Stacy Amber Lockhart and husband Leonard of Salem; sons, Daniel Christopher Neal of Robinson, Shawn Andrew Neal and wife Julie of Florida and Patrick Neal of Tennessee; grandchildren, Makenzie, Madi, Logan, Hailee, Zak, Jess, Kayla, and Ryan; and one great grandchild. Also survived by his service dog, Wrigley. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Otto Neal, his wife Dorothy Christine Neal and two sisters, Kim Ford and Shurley Sailor Chuck graduated high school in Hammond, IN. After graduation he was drafted and served in the United States Army where he served in two tours in Vietnam, 1967- 1968 and 1970-1971. He was honorably discharged after 12 years of service. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching TV, and spending time with his grandkids and dog. He loved the Chicago Cubs. He retired from Hershey in 2001 after 18 years of employment. He also worked at Roadmaster for 10 years, Ford Motor Company in Chicago, United States Post Office, and was an Army Recruiter. He was a member of the Elks, VFW, and American Legion. There will be no public services. Memorials can be made to the Purple Heart Foundation and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements.
