Obituary of Maurice O. Black

Maurice O. Black, age 89 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Centralia Manor. Maurice was born on April 13, 1930 in Patoka the son of Wes and Beatrice (Gray) Black. He married Katherine Branch on May 28, 1965 and she survives in Salem. In addition to his wife Katherine Black, Mr. Black is survived by three children, Dan “Grizz” Black and wife Pam of Centralia, Greg Black and wife Sheri of Navarre, FL, and Richard Black of St. Charles, IL; one son-in-law, Dave Nerovich of Inverness, IL; three grandchildren, Keristen Black, Nicholas Black and wife Bianca and Kaytlyn Nerovich; great-granddaughter, Waverly Rey Black; two brothers, Claude Black and wife Dorothy, Floyd Black and wife Kathryn; one sister, Freda Donoho; 17 nephews and 13 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Rebecca Nerovich; three sisters, Lula Mae Neilson, Anna Osborne and Lovell Stonecipher and one grandson, Anthony Black. Maurice attended the First Christian Church in Salem. He served in the United States Army. He was a laborer for Jiffy Manufacturing which later became Sealed Air, retiring after 44 years of employment; he also worked as a farmer for many years. Funeral Services for Maurice O. Black will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem at 2:00 pm with Zach Garrett officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery in Alma. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Children and Youth Ministry at First Christian Church and can be received at the Crouse Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
