Obituary of Mary Burgess
Mary Virginia Burgess, age 98 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday November 17, 2020 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
Mary was born on November 30, 1921 in Sparta, Illinois, the daughter of Wilson and Mary (Finfrock) Satterlee. She married Oakley Burgess on August 19, 1938 in St. Charles, MO, and they were married for 65 Years. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Survivors include her son, Lawrence O. Burgess and wife Margie of Sandoval; grandson, Clinton Burgess and wife Vanessa of Centralia; granddaughter, Lauren Caldwell and husband Chris of Sandoval; great grandchildren, Emma and Owen Caldwell; nieces, Cindy Brown and Patsy Ross; and nephew, Charles Lieth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Lillian Lieth.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked as a telephone operator and as a bookkeeper for Knapp Oil and for her husband’s Meadow Gold Dairy delivery business. She enjoyed family, friends, dancing, and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Salem.
Private graveside services will be held at the East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with Joan Munter officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Community of Christ Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association and can be left at the Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements.
