Obituary of Pat Stafford Larimer

Pat Stafford Larimer, age 90 of Salem, died on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at her home. She was born on July 21, 1930 the daughter of Laurence and Grace (Melican) Stafford in Bristow, Oklahoma. She and her family moved from to Salem from Bristow in the early 1940s during the oil boom. She married Dwight W. “Bill” Larimer on June 30, 1949 and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2009. Pat is survived by three children, Mark Larimer and wife Lynn of Salem, Terri Larimer of Salem and Tim Larimer of New York City; five grandchildren, Mary Ellen and husband Pete, Anna Laura and husband Tom, Sarah, Katy and husband Matt and Jack; four great-grandchildren, Will, Maple, Micah and Rose; special friends, Eli and Fay; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Grace Stafford; husband Bill; a daughter, Marianne Larimer; brother, John Stafford; and sister, Mary Lou Ward. Pat was a loving mother of four children and the adored grandmother of five grandchildren. She also had the pleasure of enjoying four great-grandchildren these past seven years. Pat worked alongside her husband, Bill, and son, Mark at Larimer Abstract for many years. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church where she was active in many church activities over the years. She helped coordinate the Meals on Wheels program years ago along with her mother, Grace Stafford. She was an avid bridge player, especially duplicate bridge, and enjoyed the friendship of bridge players in Salem and surrounding communities. Having married a sportswriter, she could not help becoming an enthusiastic sports fan. She especially enjoyed following her own children in their school endeavors whether through their involvements in sports, music activities or journalism aspirations. She enjoyed getting together with fellow SCHS classmates and planning reunions with graduates of the Class of 1949. She took pleasure in keeping in touch with friends and family through hand-written letters and did so until very recently. She could strike up a conversation with anyone she would meet whether at morning Mass, the grocery store, the beauty shop, restaurants, or the family business. In her own loving way, she was always reaching out to those in need. Private graveside services were held on August 26, 2020 at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with Father Abraham Adejoh officiating. Memorials can be made to the Greater Salem Area Foundation or Sleep in Heavenly Peace/Salem. Sleep in Heavenly Peace/Salem is an organization that builds beds for children in need in the Salem area. Memorials can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
