Obituary of Betty Lou Scarbrough

Betty Lou Scarbrough, age 74 of Centralia, formerly of Kell, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Centralia. She was born on October 28, 1946 in Centralia, the daughter of Cecil Wright and Melva Amelia (Scott) Scarbrough. She is survived by numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Betty was of the Christian Faith. She was employed with Centralia Cartage Company for 13 years as a data processor and freight biller. She then went on to work at the Centralia Correctional Center as an accountant for 20 years before retiring on December 31, 2002. She then worked part time in the St. Mary’s Hospital gift shop for 12 years. Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi (Preceptor Delta Chapter), American Heart Fund (door-to-door chairman for many years), Friend of the Library, Centralia Clean and Green Board Member (Keep America Beautiful), Thyme to Garden Club, Board Member of Kaskaskia Valley Community Credit Union, and the St. Mary’s Auxiliary since 1972. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Paradise Cemetery in Salem with Joannie Naraghi officiating. Those attending the graveside are asked to please stay in their vehicles for the service. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Cancer Society, or the Donor’s Choice.
