Obituary of Bill Thompson

Bill Thompson, age 80 of Sandoval, passed away on October 12, 2020 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Bill was born on December 29, 1939 in Odin, the son of Val Carlyle and Dovie Lorraine (Deadmond) Thompson. He married Catherine “Kitty” Moore on November 12, 1960 at the Sandoval First United Methodist Church and she survives in Sandoval. In addition to his wife Kitty Thompson, he is survived by three children, Jim Thompson and wife Regina of Odin, John Thompson and wife Amy of Patoka, and Jennifer Thompson and fiancé William Paterson of Trenton; seven grandchildren, Chance Thompson, Logan Thompson, Connor Reinacher and wife Kailee, Morgan Holsapple and husband Scott, Abby Thompson, Riley Thompson and fiancé Dori Brandt and Remington Russo; one great-grandson, Knox Holsapple; one sister, Alene Bachman of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dorothy Reynolds, Bobby Thompson, Barbara Malan, Wanda Myers and Alice Carroll. Bill was a member of the Sandoval First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Odin High School in 1958 and then joined the United States Air Force, where he worked as a jet mechanic. He retired as the Business Agent from the Ironworkers Local 392. He served on the Sandoval School Board, Church Board and Village Board. He was in the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Elk Lodge and the Lions Club. For many years he coached baseball at the Sandoval park. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved country music, playing in bands and got great enjoyment from performing karaoke for many residents up until a few weeks ago. Most of all Bill loved his wife, kids, grandchildren, family and friends. A private funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Sandoval First United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Hall officiating. A public graveside service will follow at Noon on Friday, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Sandoval. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and the Centralia VFW Post 2055. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. Memorials can be made to the Sandoval United Methodist Church or the Sandoval Fire Department and can be received at the funeral home.
