Obituary of Max G Sullens
Max G. Sullens, age 89 of Iuka, passed away on Friday April 16, 2021 at his home.
Max was born at home on August 9, 1931 in Alma, Illinois, the son of Basil and Opal (McWhirter) Sullens. He married Mary (Flynn) Sullens on August 8, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana and she preceded him in death on October 18, 2018.
Max is survived by his children, Jeannie Robb and husband Tracy of Cedaredge, CO, Marcia Tannahill and husband Walter of Woodlawn, Brian Sullens and wife Mary of Broken Bow, NE, Darrell Sullens of Iuka, Andrew Sullens and wife Deana of Iuka and Timothy Sullens and wife Cindy of Iuka; grandchildren, Jacob Robb, Lexi Sullens, Mike Wyman, Joey Wyman, Thad Loomis, Matt Sullens, Kelsey Rippy and husband Chris, Scott Steele, Nicole Coulter and husband Devon, Ellen Sullens, Kurt Sullens, Luke Vaughn and wife Malia, Suzy Vaughn, Nick Tannahill, and Jacque Withrow and husband Steve; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Steven Sullens; daughter, Nancy Wyman; grandson, Wade Wyman; granddaughter, Kayla Sullens; brother, Russell Sullens; and sister, Emogene Vance.
Max worked at the Army Finance Center in Indianapolis for a short time, and this is where he met his wife. He then started a career with the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Officer and worked there until his retirement. He worked many years as a farmer, enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid quail hunter. He was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Church.
Mass of Christian Burial for Max Sullens will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem with Father Charles Anyaoku officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and can be left at the funeral home.
