Thelma Runyon Jones, age 80 of Salem, passed away on Saturday September 26, 2020 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham. Thelma was born on October 21, 1939, in Salem, Illinois. She was the daughter of Merle and Frances (Wimberly) Runyon. Her mother passed away when Thelma was four years old and she and three siblings, Jim, Bill, and Carolyn, were raised by their grandparents Albert and Mary Wimberly. Thelma was baptized by immersion into Christ’s fellowship on December 14, 1958. She enjoyed talking to people, especially young children, and babies. She also helped with the formation of the neighborhood food pantry in Kinmundy several years ago. She owned and operated Thelma’s Beauty Land beauty shop in Kinmundy for many years where she made many friends. Thelma was a Charter member of Rho Beta Sigma Phi. In past years she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, especially during the holiday season. She married Cecil L. Jones on August 4, 1956 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and he survives her in Salem. Also surviving are her children, Lee Jones and wife Mary of Centralia and Tom Jones and wife Sue of Effingham, grandchildren, Leah Blomberg and husband Frank of Farina and Matt Bushue and wife Carrie of Kinmundy; step grandchildren, Major Ian Goodman of California, Linda Bushue of Salem, Crystal Stuckemeyer and husband Daron of Altamont, Heather Bushue of Effingham, Cassie Rinker of Festus, MO; son-in-law, Wayne Bushue of Kinmundy; sister, Carolyn Runyon of Salem; a brother, Bill Runyon and wife Rosetta of Salem; half-sisters, Terry Campbell of Cartter and Judy Rhodes of New Mexico; half-brother, Mike Runyon and wife Glennda of Centralia. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Phyllis Jones, Joan Jones, Janice Jones, Mary Jones, and Lenora Jones, and brothers-in-law, Dean Jones, Don Jones, Richard Jones, and John Jones. She also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren; and special friends, Bud and Norma Alberson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Bushue; granddaughter, Erica Bushue; a brother, Jim Runyon; in-laws, Helen and Jack Cox, Harold Jones, Kathryn Jones, Dwight and JoAnn Jones, and Bill and Mary Lee Jones. Private family graveside services will be held on Tuesday September 29, 2020 at the Sandy Branch Cemetery in Kinmundy with Rev. David Kueker officiating. Those in attendance are asked to please wear a mask and abide by social distancing recommendations. Memorial contribution can be made to the Shriners Children Hospital of St. Louis, the Sandy Branch Cemetery, or the donor’s choice and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements.
