Marion Joy Patterson, age 92, of Iuka, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Axiom Healthcare of Flora.

Joy was born on October 31, 1933, in Summitville, Tennessee, the daughter of Arch Lowrey and Ruby (Harmon) Lowrey. She married Charles Benjamin Patterson on December 24, 1949, in Salem, Illinois. Charles preceded her in death in 1996.

She worked for 34 years for the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services in Salem. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and was an avid reader. During her long life on this earth, she has traveled the world with family and friends.

Joy is survived by her children, Janice Hanks and husband David of Iuka, Jim Patterson, and Deborah Vaughn; grandchildren, Jordan Hanks (Kendra) of Iuka, Kyle Hanks (Becky) of Magnolia, Tristan Hanks (Emily) of Indianapolis, Christina McKissack (Michael) of Clayton, GA, James “Robbie” Patterson of Smyrna, TN, Jason Vaughn of Salem, and Jeremy Vaughn of Hawaii; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Lockwood and Winn Mears both of TN; brother, Billy Joe Lowery of TN; and caregiver, Yvette Bevelo

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Gadis Lowery and Jack Lowery; sister, Jean Elrod; and a granddaughter.

Graveside services for Joy Patterson will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Phillips Cemetery in Kinmundy, with Carl Purcell officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Phillips Cemetery or St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem.
